After getting the first doll of the Palm Springs Poppy Parker Collection way back in February 2021 (as a W Club Upgrade), and two more dolls as W Club exclusives for 2021), collectors finally witnessed the reveal of a full blown line up. The long overdue reveal was eagerly awaited by W Club members and thankfully it did not disappoint. With all the pandemic problems wrecking havoc on production and delivery all over the globe, this feels like a return back to normal - even though there is no normal to go back to anymore. What we are not going back to are the prices. They were already way up there, and with most of the dolls of this release going through dealers, it was only bound to go higher still. With Poppy being Integrity Toys money maker though, the raised prices did not seem to deter collectors, who snapped up the dolls ion no time. We got four dolls through dealers, we will get a gift set with 1 and a half doll (lol, check the next post for it) plus a fashion set and a furniture set through IT Direct and the W Club. Poppy Parker’s day in the sun was complete. She had spent the afternoon by the pool catching up with Sergio and it had given her the perfect golden glow for her upcoming fashion shoot!

First up a gorgeous sun-kissed blonde Poppy that is the embodiment of everything Palm Springs was back in the late 60s, which is the era David Buttry, Poppy’s creator, was inspired from for this collection (he specifically mentioned 1968-1971 and the famous Slim Aarons Poolside Gossip photo). Part of her inspiration was also Priscilla Presley, back in that era. Unfortunately, the doll lacks the raven hair colour of Priscilla, thus becoming one more big haired blonde Poppy, of which we have hundreds. The face screening is definitely Bergdorf Goodman - ground breaking. The dress is gorgeous, but does not justify the hefty price tag, even with the lovely new jewellery design. She is beautiful though, which was the reason I almost had her under consideration for pre-ordering, until Sparkling Sunset appeared.
Since she has just a short dress, they should have added some more bang for the buck - where are the liquor bottles and cocktail glasses we got with previous doll from this collection? At least she has a full suit eof jewellery and a lovely barrel bag, a very popular style of the era.

A wide-brimmed hat to protect her from the sun and a coordinating festive pastel ensemble was all it took for Poppy to be the prettiest blossom at the Palm Springs Garden Club!

This is the underdog of the collection. She reminds me a lot of Poppy Go See from the Model Scene collection. A suit, even in a pastel colour like this, is not what I would associate with a young woman in Palm Springs, even moving in the social scene and art gallery crowd as David mentioned during the presentation. I am sure older ladies in Palm Springs wore suits like this, but it looks a bit off on Poppy. At least she does not have straight hair with a middle part, although the pulled back hairline is a bit severe.
She comes with a hat in a matching print to her bodysuit, cute earrings, a quartet of colourful bracelets, pink mules with a horse bit (Gucci anyone?0 and a matching bag - if it had a horse bit decoration too, it would have been perfect. The mule means she has the articulated ankle feet, contrary to Golden Glow’s high heeled feet.

As Poppy Parker stepped out into the last rays of sunlight, ready for an elegant dinner and evening out on town, everyone couldn’t help but notice that her coral gown matched the hues of the setting sun perfectly. It was as if Palm Springs itself was giving her its seal of approval!

One of the best dolls in the collection is Sparkling Sunset Poppy. She wears a lovely empire waisted gown of embroidered satin, that tapers at the bottom. It certainly brings to mind the one worn by Moonlight And Kisses Darla. And is it a coincidence that this Poppy has the same platinum blonde hair and brown eyes as Baby It’s You Poppy that was released along the aforementioned Darla? David said she started with a different dress way back when he first begun working on the collection.
The dress also reminds me lot of the Breakfast At Tiffany’s pink cocktail dress worn by Audrey Hepburn and of course, by both her doll incarnations by Mattel and Integrity Toys. The glamorous jewellery would certainly not be out of place in that film. The clutch is cute but the shoes are a bit of a let down - why not do something like Roger Vivier’s pilgrim pumps with diamante buckles? I love the doll and am happy to be confirmed for her.

Sergio is always a feast for the eyes and this appearance is no exception! He is totally inspired by a guy appearing in one of Aaron Slim’s Palm Springs poolside photos - and also channels the infamous prototype Sugar Daddy Ken, not produced by Mattel. I was quick to add him to my pre-order because he’s fabulous. The jacket’s print is the same as the ice bucket’s from Resort Ready Poppy Parker. and also matches the lining of his tote and his swimming trunks.
Yes you read correctly, he comes with more than one look. A suit, a swimsuit, two shirts, a pair of horse-bit moccasin shoes (Gucci?), a pair of slides, a tote and a golden (of course) watch,, to match his golden rimmed sunglasses. He is so gorgeous that I can overlook the fact that his look is not that far from his Brazilian appearance, no?
