Stay Tuned Day 5: the Integrity Toys 2022 online event ends with a premiere and Jason Wu

The last day of the “Stay Tuned” online event had three dolls revealed: Integrity Toys made it look like the gala dinner of a normal convention, so we saw not one but two Jason Wu dolls. And there was also one NU Face doll, but instead of Jessy Ayala (who was noticeably absent throughout the event week), it was designed by David Buttry and Mark Tinkey

Despite the three dolls, we had only one series as inspiration: Sex And The City. The story goes that Lukas produced a new TV series named "Girl In The City", and we were also treated with clips from ITFTV: Integrity Toys Fashion TV, something like EW TV red carpet coverage. Giselle was the star of the new series, channelling Sarah Jessica Parker, while Aymeline, in a double appearance wearing two different Jason Wu looks, was on the premiere red carpet to support her.

It follows her very fashionable adventures in the city that never sleeps, as she tries to juggle her fabulous career as a top fashion critic and her complicated relationship with a fashion designer that she frequently needs to critique, oh and of course, her never-ending love affair with her lover's main fashion brand competitor- Manero! In the pilot episode simply titled "Hello Lover", you will fall in love with Giselle in the main role, just like we did!

Hello_Lover_Giselle_Diefendorf_doll

So if this was a convention, one of the Aymeline ladies would have been the convention doll, the other the centrepiece and Giselle would have been one of the W Club event dolls - probably the souvenir one. She tries to emulate the famous Dior by John Galliano newspaper print dress that Carrie was wearing in Sex And The City but the dress has quite a different structure and the shoes look more like cheap Manolo knockoffs than the real thing (MANERO for Manolo, lol - btw Tony Manero is the name of the character John Travolta plays in Saturday Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive). Since I have seen better made shoe buckles from Integrity (and weirdly enough there is an example on the very next doll), that would look more like the ones on the original Manolos, it puzzles me as to why this choice was made - maybe lack of resources in the factory? They look bad. The doll is beautiful, with the trademark SJP hair in abundance - and it is the second Giselle we get this year.

Jason_Wu_Collection_Winter_2021_Aymeline_doll

Can anyone tell me why Aymeline has the original Hangisi Manolos while Giselle was left with a knockoff? LOL, cannot wait to see the two of them in a catfight for the pumps! A beautiful Aymeline, with red hair, that reminds me a bit of Androgyny Avantguard doll. The dress is not actually in his 2021 Fall collection but looks like a cross between a gown from that collection with an OOAK gown he made for Kristin Davis for the And Just Like That premiere (fits with this occasion perfectly, right?). She’s a catch - the price is the same as her previous incarnations and she has it all.

The Story:

Aymeline just adored the premiere episode of "Girl In The City" (well, what little she saw of it!) and now that the screening is over, like a well-choreographed ballet, she rushed to emerge in another breath-taking Jason Wu original and completely transformed her look, just in time to turn heads again for the Post-Premiere party! What could be more glamorous? Like a beautiful chameleon, her incredible transformation created a sensational fashion moment and we're all thrilled to be there for it!

Jason_Wu_Collection_Spring_2020_Aymeline_doll

Even though the doll is named Jason Wu Collection Spring 2020, there is no such dress in that collection apart from a similar but quite different finale gown. W Club confirmed that Jason said this is the same 2012 gown worn by the first Net-A-Porter 10th anniversary exclusive doll (in chartreuse) back in 2017. I guess since they already had the pattern, they decided it looks close enough to name it 2020. The gorgeous doll reminds me a lot of the ITBE Higher doll, but (unfortunately) in a lighter skin tone. She would have looked so much better in light honey or latino. She compliments the red head perfectly, plus they will make an awesome trio with my NAP Midnight Garden blonde Aymeline.

Integrity Toys Obsession Convention 2021, Day 2: The Final Gala Event dolls

The Obsession Convention Final Gala Event was the final one for this year’s virtual convention. The Event Centerpiece doll was designed by Jessy Ayala and the Official Convention Souvenir doll was designed by designer Jason Wu, as it has been for many years. The winners of the three creative competitions were also announced. It was a mixed bag of a convention, more so than last year, and I think that the format of the event, if it continues to be virtual (which will almost certainly be again next year), has to be rethought. There are ways to make things a bit more interactive, so that people can get a sense of being connected and do things during the convention, instead of simply watching one webinar after another. With the problems in the supply chain not going away for the foreseeable future, it might be sensible to make the convention dolls early enough so that they can be available during the time of the event. It has been two years now living in a pandemic, with adequate and early planning, it can be possible.

Sovereign Adèle Makéda is definitely giving a run for her money to Victoire Roux for best doll of this convention. The final gala centerpiece doll continues designer Jessy Ayala's military-styling Obsession for the Fashion Royalty ladies and hits the mark - a perfect ten. And from the real-life photos I have seen, she sure is gorgeous. I will try to add this one to my collection, as well as Victoire. The jacket is in the formal military style seen especially in the 19th century, and with her hair and accessories she looks like a modern version of the Bridgerton ladies. She could very well have a part in that series!

Fall_2020_Elyse_Jolie_convention_doll

It is weird to have a second dark skinned Elyse in a year (after the upgrade one) and, despite her wearing a Fall 2020 Jason Wu original dress, she feels a bit underwhelming. Following after the incredible centerpiece Adele surely does not help. The obsession is cosmetics and she comes with a set of miniature Jason Wu cosmetics that are gorgeous and I’d love to have them offered as an accessory set sometime in the future. The gown is quite close to the real dress but the unfinished edges do not translate well in doll size and make the effect have no impact compared to the original. It looks like someone decided to leave the dress unfinished because they were in a hurry. Last year’s Aymeline was a much better choice for the convention souvenir doll.

The winners of the Obsession Convention Design Competitions were also announced at the final event. Each one will receive an Integrity Toys exclusive award statuette. Let’s see who won each category:

Monochromatic Obsession Styling

Competition Winner: Aral Rahman

Meet Aral Rahman

Aral Rahman was born and raised in Malaysia. He loves to design OOAK doll outfits under his own mini label ARALGHOSTIER. Coffee addict. Pure Cancerian. My muse would be pop/dance songs, favourite colors got to be black, maroon ruby, mauve & emerald. Digging in the characters of Giselle, Rayna, and Lilith.

A Note From Aral

As black and addictive as 'Opium Libre'... Feeling free and mysterious at the same time. Would love some danger while on the red carpet. Not perfect, asymmetrical, and just on edge. Effortless timeless in black couldn't be wrong! - Aral Rahman

Fashion Photo: Obsessed with Travel Photography

Competition Winner: Alberic Kacou

Meet Alberic Kacou

I'm Alby, the unique IT Collector man living in Africa (Ivory Coast, West Africa). As a globe-trotter African native, I'm passionate about travels, people and their culture, dolls, photography, fashion, and music. To me, life is a priceless gift, that I dully celebrate every day with family and friends, all over the world. I have been a doll collector for a decade, but collecting IT dolls since 2019. IT dolls are the perfect dolls for collectors, to me. Please dive into my special universe through my IG account @bibidollscollector

A Note From Alberic

Rayna is back in Tunisia, the country of origin of her grandparents. She's happy to discover the famous village Sidi Bou Said, where this special blue is present everywhere and dresses all the artistic and unique doors of the ancient shelters. Rayna's dress is assorted to the blue mood of this nice location. - Alberic Kacou

Obsessed with Fashion Diorama/Scene

Competition Winner: Nicanor Aquino

Meet Nicanor Aquino

I'm Nic from Annapolis, Maryland. Was always a doll lover, but was inspired to collect in 2018 after discovering the doll community on Instagram.

A Note From Nicanor

My diorama is inspired by your iconic characters like Cher Horowitz and Carrie Bradshaw and their obsession and love affair for fashion. The scene depicts the ridiculousness of living and breathing fashion through obsessive shopping. - Nicanor Aquino

Congratulations to all the winners, what a creative trio! And this is the end of the 2021 Integrity Toys convention coverage from me.

A new offering from Integrity Toys - basic dolls in open editions!

Integrity Toys decided to offer collectors new basic dolls from their various brands. These dolls will be a chance for new and seasoned collectors alike to buy dolls that are usually snapped up by W Club members before they even hit the store. All new basic edition dolls will be made in open edition sizes. That means that when they "sell-out" on Integrity’s online shop, more will be produced and then made available for sale again. This makes it easier for people just starting to collect IT dolls to enter the hobby - something that is really hard due to the limited editions. Once the initial shipment currently in the IT warehouse sells out, the next run will be ready in a few months.

pinup-allure-summer-glamour-victoire-roux-basic-doll_73038_73039_CU.jpg

The first 2 dolls in the series are two different Victoire Roux dolls designed by Chris Stoeckel. Each doll in the series features hand-applied eyelashes, a few accessories, and signature doll stands. The dolls will come packaged in lightweight, easy-to-ship narrow packaging (dimensions 4" X 14" X 2.25" similar to the recent convention slim-box packaging). this will reduce shipping costs a bit, IT said that additional characters from other collector-favorite brands are on the way soon. I am really curious to see what they will be and how they will handle the more popular ones: Poppy Parker anyone? At $99.00 a doll, they are definitely not playline cheap, but they are IT collectibles. Some compared the price with the $60.00 that Style Lab dolls cost in the latest convention. But those were nude dolls, without any accessories, no stand and no box. Add all these up and you get why the raised price. I am curious to see how this will evolve, it is a good thing though and kudos to Integrity Toys for making it happen.

Dolly Days 3: A night at the opera!

The third day of Integrity Toys’ "Dolly-Days" brings us two more dolls in the series created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Integrity Toys and former doll designer prodigy, now well known fashion designer, Jason Wu. He is paying homage to the two characters that started it all for him, "The Originals" Véronique Perrin® and Adèle Makéda®*. Based on an original concept Jason imagined just for these two iconic characters, they are going to a La Traviata opera performance at the famous La Fenice theatre in Venice. the two dolls are sold separately and are a W Club members only lottery opportunity. The-Originals-Veronique-Fashion-Royalty-Jason-Wu_12313_CU.jpg

Deceprrivly simple at first sight, the dolls reveal their bias cut spiral lace dresses upon closer inspection, not an easy feat, unless the lace is sold like this and the dress is cut in the usual way. I love the embroidered masks, that look so very much like those from Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2009 collection. The lovely cape is a very classic choice for a big opera gala, especially in places like the mythical La Fenice in Venice, where a very young and almost unrecognisable Maria Callas performed for the first time La Traviata. Even the hairstyle is a classic one for Callas. As is the tradition for Jason Wu dolls lately, the accessories are more than minimal - two stud earrings and the shoes, plus the aforementioned mask. A clutch (better yet, a minaudière) should have been included. The $175 price is less than the $200 Wu dolls command at retail. In fact it is the same price asked for Korinne in the Maison Collection (Vero was $160 then). not cheap, but not that expensive either. The two payment instalments for the lottery winners surely help. I’m not entering the lottery for her because I really do not like the way her lips are painted outside their natural lip line. They look filled to the brim and that is no look for Veronique in my books.

Adele looks so much better than Veronique with this look - I love her face and the austere hairstyle, combined with the cape, brings to mind Naomi Campbell in Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019 - although the outfit is quite different, the silhouette, fabric and styling are similar. The same comments about accessories and price can be said here as for Veronique. But she is definitely the best of them and I entered for her. Wish me luck.

In my previous post, I mentioned that last Saturday, during the final presentation of the Integrity Toys 2020 Legendary convention, Jason Wu showed us a doll that was to be kept under wraps for a while. Well, the doll in question was our first glimpse of the new character Aymeline, that was to be used for the convention doll as well, but in a completely different incarnation, which shows the versatility of the sculpt: it is the original Avantguard sculpt, shrunk with computer 3d modelling to 1/6 scale. And that explains its versatility, as the AG one could also give very different dolls depending on hair and make up used. Jason made this doll, Midnight Garden Aymeline, to celebrate the 20 years of Net-A-Porter in business, to be sold exclusively by them. Everybody was enthusiastic about her and we were promised more details before the release, which arrived on Sunday. The doll had a staggered release on NAP’s different country sites, beginning with east Asia and Australia, in the wee hours after midnight Sunday. It sold out really quickly, sooner even than the estimated time the email had given, something that has happened before with NAP Jason Wu dolls. 20% of the profits from the doll will go to a British charity, Women For Women International.

The gorgeous Aymeline is a fantastic doll and comes with more accessories than previous Jason Wu releases ever did: proper jewellery, three pairs of shoes in their lovely shoeboxes and two shopping bags. The execution of the dress is stunning and the beauty of her face mesmerizing. I’m happy that she is coming home this week as it is my birthday on Thursday and she will be a perfect gift. I was lucky to check the W Club forum after reading the email and it was there, late at night my time (Athens time) that the first dolls started appearing on Asian and the Australian NAP sites and quickly selling out. When I saw that it was staggered, I calculated that it would come live for Europe early in the morning, and decided to risk it and wait as the prices were higher in Asia, plus I’d have to pay a huge amount of import tax. I woke up at 7.00 Athens time and it was right then that the doll started becoming available on EU sites. I grabbed the chance and she’s coming home. My first NAP Jason Wu doll! She is wearing a Jason Wu Collection original gown from his Spring 2019 collection, which you can see below.

NET-A-PORTER EXCLUSIVE

We have a limited amount of information to share. Note again, this is the information that was shared with us and we did not have any input/influence.

As the retailer is handling all of the specifics, we cannot confirm the accuracy of the information or that they will comply with the information given us. We also unfortunately cannot help solve any problems, should they arise.

For your convenience, here is the information that we have been given so far (please do not contact the Liaisons; we do not have any further information to share about this doll):

What we have been told is that the offer is expected to go live on NET-A-PORTER.com on Nov. 9th, 2020, at approximately 7:00 AM GMT (which is 3:00 AM Eastern/New York Time). While they have told us this time is across the platform, it is possible that it is a “rolling” time and they may launch later, depending on the location-specific site. We know this is inconvenient, but unfortunately, we are not involved in this release and are only sharing information available.

It is our experience that often retailers don’t follow their release plans exactly. Please check their site at your discretion, since previous offers have gone up early and others late. Again, we understand that this is inconvenient and have communicated that to them, but again, it is out of our direct or even indirect control and we don’t want you to miss out. As we do not have a link, we would check a variety of search terms including “Jason Wu” and “doll”.

We don't know of any international shipping restrictions for this item, but we also cannot confirm whether there will be any on the country-specific sites, so we recommend starting with NET-A-PORTER.com but perhaps checking their related country-specific sites just in case; exact shipping information will be available on their site once the offer goes live.

And here is the information taken from the Net-A-Porter website.

EXCLUSIVE AT NET-A-PORTER. It's a little-known fact that Jason Wu was a toy designer for ten years before launching his eponymous label, so naturally this limited-edition doll has the same attention to detail as any of his ready-to-wear collections. It's created in partnership with high-end specialists Integrity Toys and dressed in one of the label's frothy tulle gowns. Fully articulated with a display stand, it has carefully rooted blonde hair and comes with two NET-A-PORTER shopping bags, a trio of different pumps and interchangeable manicured hands.

20% of the profits* from the sale of this product will go to Women for Women International (UK). Women for Women International (UK) is a registered charity in England and Wales (charity number 1115109).

*"Profits" means the sale price of the product less operational and landing costs, including transportation fees, customs, duties, taxes, insurance, currency conversion, crating, handling and payment fees.
