Integrity Toys 2012 release: Back To Brooklyn - The Dynamite Girls

Last Saturday Integrity Toys held their on-line event, exclusive to W Club members, for unveiling their 2012 mainline collections. Marketing Director Alain Tremblay started the presentation and introduced their PR director, Carol Roth (who is so bubbly she indeed had to become a doll!). She in turn introduced the designer David Buttry to present the first collection - The Dynamite Girls. The 2012 DG collection is called Back To Brooklyn and features looks inspired by youthful Brooklyn street fashion. A mix of old school prep, vintage hues, textures and patterns are the trademark for this style. Very hipster! All dolls are expected at the end of May.

Item #66079 Jasper™ Suggested Retail Price: $65.00 US Limited Edition Size: 450 Dolls Worldwide
Jasper is the most popular girl in this collection, she reminds me so much of Japanese fashion dolls like Momoko. She wears a brown lace baby doll dress with black and white pleated accents, black lace tights, brown leather boots (a first for DG, up to now it was only plastic for the girls), a multi-strand silver chain necklace, and a charcoal grey knit sock cap to finish off her look. Her bag looks like it could hold an iPad. Cute but not my style.

Item #66080 Neve™ Suggested Retail Price: $65.00 US Limited Edition Size: 450 Dolls Worldwide
Neve is the second of the team, dressed in a gold and grey striped jersey pullover, aqua blue shirt, pink neck-tie, jeans with cargo pockets and grey boots with a silver buckle. The silver hoop earrings and the silver bangle bracelet are the finishing touches. I do not like cargo pants in real life (one of the most disfiguring clothing items ever released) and they do not look better on dolls. Her legs look like sausages.

Item #66081 Gavin™ Suggested Retail Price: $65.00 US Limited Edition Size: 450 Dolls Worldwide
Gavin is wearing a 70s college prep style pant-suit, with belted, high waist corduroy jeans, a vest, a salmon shirt under it and a pumpkin fitted blazer with a lovely green trim. A pair of tan boots complete the retro look.  She is like a young Annie Hall but the hair ruin the look - more Charlie's Angels then Brooklyn hipster.

Item # 66082 Auden™ Suggested Retail Price: $65.00 US Limited Edition Size: 450 Dolls Worldwide
Auden was the mega hit of the DG collection last year and this year's version was a disappointment for many. He's supposedly a hairdresser so he coloured his hair a carrot red, which looks nice, but his haircut is a bit overwhelming. He sports a vintage jean jacket, brown tweed pants, plaid vest, short-sleeved light blue shirt, neck-tie, and light blue and tan shoes. His clothes look great and would make a lovely addition to any FR Homme guy's wardrobe, although his pants do look a bit shapeless. Where can I find a vest like that for me?

Item #66083 Remi™ Suggested Retail Price: $65.00 US Limited Edition Size: 450 Dolls Worldwide
Remi is for me the best doll in this collection and the only one I would like to have. Look at this outfit! I would dress like that anytime! He wears mustard colored skinny jeans, a blue chambray shirt (incredibly scaled pattern), a brown graphic t-shirt over it and soft greenish-grey "leather" jacket. The green shoes and a plaid newsboy cap top off his ensemble. I think this one is the hit of 2012 for DG. And I must add that although the girls are too cartoon-y for me, the boys more than make up for it.

Integrity 2011 online event: Dynamite Girls

Integrity Toys presented a huge variety of dolls in their online event yesterday. The sheer amount of dolls, the many new faces (either new molds or re-use of old ones) is staggering, especially during an economical downturn such as this. I hope they know what they are doing and not spreading themselves too thin.
First in my presentation are the Dynamite Girls, which now also have boys in the collection! The line was separated into two dinstict collections, the basic looking Checkmates and the more dressed up (and more expensive) Plastic Inevitable collection.

So below you can see the whole line up of the checkmates collection - the three Dynamite girls and one of the boys! As the story goes, the Dynamite Girls are hitting the beaches on the upper east coast this summer for a much needed vacation from the hustle and bustle of the fashion world in New York. Alongside Jett, Sooki and Aria is a new guy in town, Kyu, a Korean Pop singer.

This was the Checkmates. From what I can see the new Korean boy is a re-incarnation of Takeo, looking very much like his In the Mix version so the only doll I would have ordered from here is out (limited budget). I do not know if he is the same sculpt but they look so much alike that I will wait for another version to get one.

The Plastic Inevitable looks like a more gorwn up version of Dynamite Girls, very much looking like Nu Face dolls, apart from their face paint which is still too much childish for my taste - their outfits though are trendier, edging to hipster, only natural since the collection is inspired by New York's bustling art and counter-culture scene of the late 1960s and early 1980s. Two new guys join the Dynamite Girls in this collection. Auden is an in-demand hair and makeup artist and Remi is becoming a top fashion photographer in the industry.

From this line I love Auden (who would not?) and will try to get him. Other than that there is not much interest to me as their dressing is not my style, I always prefer more grown up styles and fashion, plus the cartoon-y faces are too far from my aesthetic in dolls. The military jacket and lace top on Aria though look great. I promised to some W-Cub members who missed listening to me in this year's webinar that I will be making podcasts for the new lines, so they will be going up at the blog soon, with more comments for the dolls.

Tatiana's Doll House: The Dining Room

The very talented Tatiana has started making a series of rooms in 1/6 scale - all together they will make a big dollhouse. I will be presenting her work here in the blog - one room each month. We start with the dining room. Tatiana was inspired for the table by the dining room from Calvin Klein's Doll House by architect Josh Prince-Ramus (see previous post and photo below) . She liked the "dressy" posh impression conveyed by the dark brown and white colour scheme, and decided to use black & white for her dining room.

The idea to make the whole doll house in black and white with style and colour coordinated rooms came to her after making the dining table from wooden frames, which she purchased on clearance for her craft projects. They are solid wood shadowbox frames with high quality black finish. Her husband kindly cut them to desired height with a mitre saw. She then finally had enough modern looking furniture to make not only the dining room, but also the living room and bedroom. These furniture pieces with their rich feel of solid wood and almost jewellery-box quality finish are her favourites.

Tatiana had several dioramas in foamcore boxes before and after discovering that they don't hold their shape and warp under furniture weight, began looking for something more sturdy. She found oversized double corrugated cardboard in a local art store and decided to give it a try. She scored the sheet with a construction knife, then proceeded to fold and glue it into a box. The result was much better than she had hoped for. Using oversize coverstock for walls and floor added more durability and allowed her to avoid unsightly seams.

The columns are 13-3/4" wedding cake pillars, bought here. The white chairs came with Dynamite Girls convention chair packs. Tatiana purchased some of them on e-bay and some on doll boards. Plates are Gloria accessories that were repainted white. The cutlery, candelabras, wine bucket with bottle and "crystal" glasses are from Gloria play sets too. Vases are by Mattel, except for the clear one, which is a lipstick base.

She cut out placemats from acrylic screen on collectible Barbie box. The white table runner is a candy box ribbon. The Fashion Royalty liquor cabinet was a part of her office diorama, that was disassembled to make room for this one. Tatiana thought that it would look much better as a china cabinet and, after arranging some Re-ment plates and tea sets in it, she was happy with the result. And so are we.
