American Horror Story: Coven - the dolls are finally out!

It has been two years since the announcement about Integrity Toys producing American Horror Story: Coven dolls came, making collectors and fans of the series giddy with excitement. Since that day, three more seasons of the series have been aired and time seemed to pass too slowly on the way to the final product. Collectors were getting annoyed, bored, even becoming indifferent to any news - admittedly very few - on the progress of the project. It seems that the main issue was the final approval of the dolls' sculpts from the actors being portrayed. With so many divas involved, it would not surprise me at all. Finally the dolls are revealed, available to preorder at all Integrity Toys dealers, with Angela Basset's Marie Laveau being the first doll to arrive at the end of the month.

Item # 14086

Portrayed by famed actress Angela Bassett, Marie Laveau is the Voodoo Queen in American Horror Story: Coven™. Marie Laveau is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. She comes dressed in a leopard print suit and blood red leather jacket, accessorised with large hoop earrings, snake pendant necklace, shoes, and a doll stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

I love this one! They did a great likeness of the artist and the outfit is fierce. Overall one of the best in the collection - if not the very best! I would have preferred another outfit, more "witchy" like the one below, but I'm really satisfied.

And Angela Basset in the leopard outfit from the series:

Item # 14085
Fiona Goode Dressed Doll
American Horror Story Coven™
The Official Collectible Doll Series
Limited Edition of 900 Dolls Worldwide
Suggested Retail Price: $130.00 US
Available Approximately Early January 2017

Doll Specs:
Head Sculpt: Fiona Goode (New Sculpt!)
Body Type: FR2013

Portrayed by famed actress Jessica Lange, Fiona Goode is the central character of American Horror Story: Coven™. Fiona Goode is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. She comes dressed in one of her signature looks and includes two pairs of interchangeable hands (non-gloved and gloved), earrings, sunglasses, shoes, a fully functional umbrella and a doll stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Now this one looks a bit off, as far as the likeness is concerned, but if Jessica Lange is OK with it, I'm  more than fine. The loos is impeccable and the cherry on top is the functioning umbrella! Love her! Below is a still from the series with Lange in her iconic look, leading the coven.

Item # 14090
Myrtle Snow Dressed Doll
American Horror Story Coven™
The Official Collectible Doll Series
Limited Edition of 650 Dolls Worldwide
Suggested Retail Price: $130.00 US
Available Approximately Mid-December 2016

Doll Specs:
Head Sculpt: Myrtle Snow (New Sculpt!)
Body Type: FR 2013

Eyelashes: Yes, Hand-Applied
Quickswitch: No

Portrayed on-screen by actress Frances Conroy, the eccentric Myrtle Snow served as the Head of the Witches Council on American Horror Story: Coven™. Myrtle Snow is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. Myrtle wears a black jacket, cinched at the waist by a faux-leather belt, over a polka dot shirt and long skirt combo. Her look is completed by long, contrasting yellow gloved interchangeable hands (regular non-painted hands included as well), her signature cat-eyed glasses, oversized turquoise and gold spider shaped jewelled broach, shoes and a doll stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

They totally nailed Myrtle, even though she is not wearing the red "Balenciaaaaga!" final outfit. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Below is the actress from the series.

Item # 14087
Zoe Benson Dressed Doll
American Horror Story Coven™
The Official Collectible Doll Series
Limited Edition of 800 Dolls Worldwide
Suggested Retail Price: $130.00 US
Available Approximately First Week of December 2016

Doll Specs:
Head Sculpt: Zoe Benson (New Sculpt!)
Body Type: NU. Face 2.0
Skin Tone: Japan
Hair Color: Brunette
Eyelashes: Yes, Hand-Applied
Quickswitch: No

Portrayed on-screen by actress Taissa Farmiga, Zoe Benson is a Council member and a witch at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies on American Horror Story: Coven™. Zoe Benson is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. Zoe comes dressed in a look that includes a black satin mini-skirt and a white shirt with ruffled detail and a black ribbon tie. She completes her look with a large brimmed black hat, an oversized finger ring, short black socks, short faux-leather boots and a doll stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

She looks close enough to the real thing. Cute face, lovely outfit. I think the three older characters are better than the three younger ones though.  I would have preferred another outfit for this character, like the black one below:

They probably tried to avoid too much total black outfits, even though this is a line that would totally justify it. Below is a still from the series with Farmiga in the outfit worn by the doll.

Item # 14088
Kyle Spencer Dressed Fashion Figure
American Horror Story Coven™
The Official Collectible Doll Series
Limited Edition of 700 Figures Worldwide
Suggested Retail Price: $130.00 US
Available Approximately Mid-November 2016

Doll Specs:
Head Sculpt: Kyle Spencer (New Sculpt!)
Body Type: Homme
Skin Tone: Japan
Hair Color: Blond
Eyelashes: No
Quickswitch: No

Portrayed by actor Evan Peters, Kyle Spencer is a native of New Orleans' Ninth Ward and has spent the years since Katrina supporting his single mother. Resurrected after a violent death, Kyle serves Miss Robichaux's Academy on American Horror Story: Coven™. Kyle Spencer is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion figure with fully rooted hair. Kyle is dressed in the outfit the girls dressed him in after his awkward resurrection from the dead, which features a plaid shirt, khakis, black shoes and a figure stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

Great likeness of the actor, but the head looks a bit larger than it should have - it might be the hair that makes it look like that. Men in AHS: Coven did not have any particularly striking outfits, so I am guessing the inclusion of the character had more to do with the popular actor and less with any fashion inspiration. They should have included a jacket with it. Below is the actor from the series with Lily Rabe as Misty, who unfortunately is not included in this line up of dolls.

Item # 14089
Madison Montgomery Dressed Doll
American Horror Story Coven™
The Official Collectible Doll Series
Limited Edition of 800 Dolls Worldwide
Suggested Retail Price: $130.00 US
Available Approximately Mid-December 2016

Doll Specs:
Head Sculpt: Madison Montgomery (New Sculpt!)
Body Type: NU. Face 2.0
Skin Tone: Japan
Hair Color: Dark Blond
Eyelashes: Yes, Hand-Applied
Quickswitch: No

Portrayed on-screen by actress Emma Roberts, out-of-control Hollywood starlet Madison Montgomery is used to things going her way. After becoming stranded at Miss Robichaux's Academy, she may learn that she needs more than star power to shine.  Madison Montgomery is a 12.5-inch fully articulated fashion doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. Madison comes dressed in a look composed of a black bustier, silver jacquard cigarette pants, and a black fur coat, accessorised by a thick silver finger ring, crystal beaded earrings and short faux-leather high-heeled boots and a doll stand. Recommended for adult collectors ages 15 and up.

I think this likeness is off. This does not look like Emma Roberts at all. She's gorgeously dressed but that's it. Pity as she would have been striking. Below is the actress in the series.

Cosmopolitan India celebrates its 20th anniversary - and fashion dolls are photographed for the issue!

Fashion dolls have been featured quite a while in fashion magazines in the last few years. Even models have been photographed as dolls many times. I had done a photo shoot with doll-sized clothes designed by the cream of Indian fashion designers some years back, for Grazia India. This year, Cosmopolitan India celebrates its 20th anniversary, with their October issue. And thanks to its amazing editor in chief, Nandini Bhalia, I got a chance to have my doll photos featured in this special issue for an editorial about blush, by talented fashion editor Navya Anand. Below is the pages of the magazine as featured in the October 2016 issue, now on stands. Click to see them bigger. Again I must thank Nandini and Navya for their support and for choosing me to participate in this special issue of Cosmopolitan India.

The opening two-page spread with Intrigue Elise Jolie in a Jason Wu jumpsuit and Going Public Eugenia in a valeyofdolls gown.

Of course Style Notes Isha Kalpana Narayanan would be featured in Cosmopolitan India!

Main Attitude Adele Makeda in all her glamour

And the final page featured a guide on how to blush, with Daring Imogen, Power House Ayumi, Take Me On Vanessa and Belissima Natalia. Sorry to say that Eugenia and Poppy did not make the final cut. Tantrums could ensue!

The 20th anniversary October issue of Cosmopolitan India is out now, with Kangana Ranaut on the cover.

The 2016 Integrity Toys Convention: Supermodels part X: The final gala night

The final night of the Integrity Toys convention is always the most impressive, important but also emotional, as everyone has to say goodbye. The evening started with the introduction of the final centerpiece of the convention, followed by dinner, the announcement of this year's competition winners, the raffle of the designer OOAK dolls (which were amazing, pity I do not have official photos) and an interview with Jason Wu.
Jason announced plans for celebrating his company's 10th anniversary in 2017 and the introduction of new features in the Fashion Royalty line, starting with a "Velvet Touch" skin finish (sounds similar to Lovetones skin). He announced that as a thank you for everyone who opted to attend convention this year, a special offer would be included with the convention doll: to pre-order the very first Elyse doll that features the "Velvet Touch" skin finish. It seems like the Jason Wu anniversary dolls will be a separate line, sold through international stores, more expensive and with more detailed handmade outfits. More about the actual doll below.
I forgot to mention in a previous post that Victoire is also making a comeback, with a slightly tweaked body (it will be "explosive" like the FR for easier dressing). Cannot wait to see her back.
The moment everyone was waiting for was of course the reveal of this year's convention doll which came with two complete outfits to match the other girls in the convention collection.
Next year's convention will be in Orlando, Florida the weekend of October 19th-21st, 2017 with the theme of Fashion Fairytale. The amazing fairytale inspired editorials of Grace Coddington for the Christmas issues of Vogue came to mind immediately.
The winner of 2016's Supermodel Convention Design Competition Advanced Category was the talented Salvador Lopez Arriaga, so congratulations for him! He got both jury and public awards. His design will come to life later in 2017 as a real Integrity Toys doll. Here's a picture of his lovely creation:

At the intermediary category, public prize went to the amazing Ginny Liezert, while last year's winner, the awesome Jason Kramer got the jury prize. Congratulations both, much deserved!

Item # 91410
Tweed Couture
Dania Zarr™ Dressed Doll
Saturday Night Dinner Table Centerpiece
The 2016 Integrity Toys SUPERMODEL Convention
Limited Edition of 350 Centerpieces Only

This is a suit from the Dior by John Galliano Haute Couture collection from Autumn/Winter 1997/1998, an iconic collection and show. It was worn on the runway, in the parc des Bagatelles, by Debra Shaw, a model and friend of Galliano's.

A simliar look was also shown but with higher shoulders.

..and the only editorial photo of it I could find was this:

Princesse Bundi and Princesse Partabgarh from the Haute Couture F/W 1997 Collection.
Photography by Patrick Demarchelier

Dania looks gorgeous here, and the recreation of the suit is perfection. Love the amazing Masai necklace. The inspiration of that collection was Marchesa Casati and Masai tribal dress.

Pity the shoes are not the fringed ones shown with the actual outfit, they'd be smashing. I do think though that Jordan or Nadja would rock this one much better, just like Debra Shaw did on the catwalk.

Dasha™ Dressed Doll
Official Convention Doll
The 2016 Integrity Toys SUPERMODEL Convention
Limited Edition of 500 Dolls Only

Lacroix sweetie, Lacroix! Finally a gown from the master of couture, and a sumptuous one at that. This is from the Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1995 collection and this is how it looked on the runway:

Courtesy Harper's Bazaar/Getty Images

Shalom Harlow is the supermodel that wore it best in an editorial for US Vogue that year:

Dasha, still with her trademark sideglance, looks fab here. She does remind me a bit of Karen Mulder and also of her previous incarnation as Renegade, again blonde and in a red dress.

I love the recreation and the detachable train. The jewellery is amazing too. And she has the extra Versace dress too!

Item # 91411
La Vie en Bleu
Elyse Jolie™ Dressed Doll
Designed By Jason Wu Collection
Limited Edition: TBD
Additional 2016 Supermodel Convention Attendee Exclusive
*Featuring the new Velvet Touch skin! More details coming later.

Elyse was not at convention but she made quite an impression. The face looks a lot like Montaine Market Elise, the dress is lovely, with nice detailing. But the stud earrings and the absence of other accessories do not justify the high price (near $200 from what I hear) of the doll. She is too austere, almost looks like a nanny in a fancy dress.

The 2016 Integrity Toys Convention: Supermodels part IX: The W Club Luncheon

After a Friday night without an official event (only the Bazaar was on), Saturday morning arrived and the last convention day. This means, first of all,  the W Club Members-Only Luncheon. This year it featured Nu Face and the centerpiece was Erin sitting on a miniature motorcycle (which you can find on ebay for more or less the same price one could get it in the convention, it's a Honda Valkyrie model miniature). During the event, W Club owner and stage-host Carol Roth hosted a Q & A panel featuring the IT design team. The designers answered questions that club members sent in online last week. The gift doll was a new-sculpt Colette doll. Jesse Ayala is taking over the Nu Face line design.
In other news, the AHS: Coven first doll is appearing near the end of the month and the first doll will be Angela Basset's Marie Laveau. They confirmed what many suspected, the demise of the Dynamite Girls line. The Industry line is its replacement, will use some of those sculpts but at almost double the price. Makes financial sense, no?

This Erin is of course inspired by the famous photoshoot by Peter Lindbergh for thr September 1991 issue of American Vogue seen below:

Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Karen Mulder, and Stephanie Seymour. Styled by Grace Coddington, All wearing Versace jackets and skirts.

Erin looks great and her outfit as well, apart from the oversize cap.

So is she Helena or Cindy? Maybe Stephanie? Or Karen?

The bike she was shown on is below. 50 of the attendees were raffled to buy these. You can find it on ebay.

She had nice accessories too

Colette D.™ / NU. Face Dressed Doll

The 2016 Integrity Toys SUPERMODEL Convention
Limited Edition of 400 Dolls Only

So this is the new sculpt for Colette. This has been a long time coming. Last appearance of the old one as Colette was back in the Rock Wedding Trio if I remember correctly.

The outfit is from Azedinne Alaia's Tati collection from 1991 as seen below on Christy:

She has a ring too and the mules look just like Christy's above left. Pity she does not have a bag.

The 2016 Integrity Toys Convention: Supermodels part VIII: The Welcome Gift Set is completed!

During the first two days, attendees got the remaining parts of the Industry/Tulabelle gift set. They had the chance to add a two-piece outfit that channels Tulabelle's grandmother Poppy Parker, with a Warhol inspired print of Poppy's face on a bright blue "A line" mini-dress, under a bright orange "fur" coat and a tweed jacket and shorts with thigh-high black socks.

Look No.2 (Outfit only)

While this would look great on Poppy, styled in a mod fashion, it looks weird on Tulabelle. Maybe with a different hairstyle she will rock it. My reference for this would be the green fur coat from the infamous 1971 Yves Saint Laurent collection...

Willy Van Rooy in Yves Saint Laurent Fur Coat, photographed by Hans Feurer for ELLE, Spring / Summer, 1971

...but it could equally well be Rihanna in Balmain.

Yes, it is She's Not There Poppy on the dress. Edie Sedgwick or Twiggy?

Look No.3 (Outfit only)

This looks like Moschino resort 2016:

So she could wear it with the pink pumps as well, pity she does not have the black bag too. Oh wait, a convention doll with a bag!
