Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: the event doll - Agnes Von Weiss Merveilleuse

As is the norm in the W Club unveils, Integroty Toys offered each member the chance to preorder a special event doll. It is another version of Agnes, who seems to be constantly being offered in version after version from the company lately - we had one as an upgrade doll earlier this year. With Veronique and Natalia missing, I do not see the reason why they or a different character all together could not have been offered to us instead of Agnes again. With that said, I must say this doll is gorgeous. She is a Carolina Herrera deadringer, from the short hair (a first for Agnes), to the puffy white blouse and the long lace skirt, everything screams Carolina Herrera here. And I like it. So maybe we can forgive an Agnes deluge this time. Maybe. I do not get the price hike in this one - another $10 up and it is not even a gift set. Is it the extra skirt fabric?

Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: Fashion Royalty La Femme collection

The W Club also got the chance to preview the new Fashion Royalty collection last Saturday. Titled "La Femme", the ultra-feminine collection is designed this season by featured designer Jessy Ayala, and was created to celebrate all that makes women of all origins beautiful (as per the company's announcement). Vaughn helped with the production side of the collection. With the success and fresh ideas that Jesse has brought to the Nu Face collection, it was only a matter of time before they let him dabble in the other lines, and here is the first example. So did he succeed? Before we find out, let me point out again that the dolls are $10 more expensive than last year, without any apparent change in what is being on offer, other than the newly revised FR body, which now has no waist joint and softer looking knees. Plus we get the first doll with the interchangeable flat feet set. Gorgeous doll, again with a screening channeling Going Public Eugenia. Jesse said he picked screenings for each doll from the most popular ones from the past. Good choice. She also channels Spectacular Spectacular Eugenia (the FAO special Eugenia back in the beginning). I also love what she is wearing, which is very fashionable right now and reminds me a bit of my favourite designer these days, Jacquemus. The edition size is quite large, so they expect her to be very popular. I am sure she will be. She will be coming home to me as well.

Jordan is one of the characters that people have been asking to return and it showed in the voting for this year's upgrade FR doll. So here she is, with blond hair and a very colourful outfit. For me this is the weakest doll in this collection, a not so successful mix and match of elements and colours that maybe needed more tweaking, if not a complete redesign. That bag though is to die for.

Another failed mix and match doll, this one in a bit more palatable style than Jordan. Red hair always go well for Vanessa, especially with lighter skin tones. She has a screening based on Star Power Vanessa. If she had a jacket instead of the fur wrap, maybe it would have looked much better.  I love the shirt with the intricate ties on the sleeves.

People had been wondering if we would ever see Elyse in a dark skin tone and here she is. To tell you the truth, she looks a bit weird to me, although I do like the doll a lot. As if she got a fake tan from a bottle or spend too many hours in a tanning salon. She is going to be available via lottery through the club. Combine that with the first appearance of flat feet, the lower price point - this being a close up doll - and you have got the making of a really popular doll. I sure will try to win that lottery!

Easily the best doll of the collection, she was the most popular in the webinar poll too (with Eugenia a close second). The doll is stunning, with short hair sporting a marcel wave and a screening reminding me of the Muse. the outfit is perfection incarnate with its Provençal inspiration (again, Jacquemus): colour, tailoring, style, shape, all combine harmonically to give one of the best dolls Integrity has ever released. I am glad I got confirmed for this one, as her edition size is very small.

Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: Nu Face Heirloom collection

The W Club members were eagerly waiting for Saturday the 24th of June for the promised unveil of the two main Integrity Toys collections, Nu Face and Fashion Royalty. After the success of the Reckless collection, the company let the talented Jesse Ayala work his magic again for the new one. And he did not disappoint.
Named "The Heirloom Collection" it is dedicated to all of those little items we own in our personal closets that make our looks so special. Each doll in this series comes with one special item that is true and dear to her. Maybe it's a special pair of earrings, a delicate brush or a fabulous mirror, but it's definitely cherished for generation after generation. Jesse said he was in a romantic mood, with a haunted mansion as his setting, imagining the Nu Face ladies had used it as a set for their fashion shoot. Luckily he did not present a goth rehash but instead his vision is that of a very modern, updated and - dare I say - minimal Victorian aesthetic. It also looks like a successor to Reckless, evolving it forward. The body is Nu Face 3.0 which means no waist articulation and pop out joints.

The dolls are more expensive this year. There was the usual,talk of raised costs in China and paying for quality and fully accessorised dressed dolls. In the case it is backed by a brilliant collection, which will help sales despite the price raise. Gorgeous version of Imogen. With her red hair amd pale skin and freckles she is very different from all her previous incarnations. The outfit looks nice as well, with the contrasting textures and colours. The brooch is her heirloom, used in a variety of ways: as a hair or clothing ornament. I have a very limited budget this year so she was the one to cut from my want list. I hope to get her in the future though. Her screening is based on the Going Public Eugenia one, which is a firm favourite not only of Jesse but of most Integrity Toys collectors. 

Oh, do not let the flat looking boots deceive you. Her feet are the usual high heeled ones.  They are using a design that looks flat but accommodates the high heel.

For me, this is the most uninteresting doll of the collection, and this says a lot. She's very beautiful in the Latino skin tone, with a very detailed outfit and lovely accessories (heirloom mini case anyone? Spider ring!) but she is no match for the rest. I love the bishop sleeves.

Rauna is in Latino skin tone here, with dark hair, which brings her origins to the fore. Strangely enough she did not click with me. It could be the pInk lipstick, which, combine with the grey blue pants and tassel earrings give an 80s vibe. Her heirloom, the cuff/ring, is gorgeous, although I would have like it more oriental looking. It is a heirloom after all. Doesn't she remind you of Gigi or Bella Hadid?

Nadja is the smash hit of the collection - second time in a row. Her silver hair, gorgeous face and sexy outfit combine into perfection. I was lucky to preorder her but the dealers who were accepting preorders are sold out. Maybe you can get her from those opening store today. Good luck!  She is a close up doll, meaning a lingerie basic edition, hence the lower price. She does have a ring and a mirror, which is great. I love the shrug!

Another twin gift set. Is it me or are they becoming too ubiquitous? I love bits and pieces from each ensemble but the accessories not so much. Compared to their Reckless versions, here the sisters are tame and casual. Still gorgeous though. They will be available through a lottery from IT DIRECT later this year.  Jesse said that the zipper on Lilith's top is functional and can go all the way down, making it look like a dress. Note that in the poll that followed the presentation, the twins were overwhelmingly  the most popular, Nadia second with less than half the votes, while Ayumi was the least popular choice. As far as how they pick which dolls will be available through lotteries, like the twins now, they said it is quite often a matter of getting a doll to the public in a lower cost than doing it the usual way - I.e through dealers - would entail.

Mattel gives Ken a man bun - is that diverse enough?

Mattel just announced a slew of new Ken dolls for their play-line Barbie collection, Fashionistas. Ken now has two more body types, broad and slim, in addition to the original. There are 15 new Ken dolls, combining a variety of styles and skin tones, no Asian one though. That is one major fault there. And the broad physic is a muscular style, not a more common body type like the curvy Barbie. Lisa Mc Knight, Mattel's senior vice-president, said in a statement that the variety of Ken dolls would allow girls to “further personalize the role they want him to play in Barbie’s world”. If plastic molded hair means personalisation, that's news to me. 

Don't get me wrong, the dolls look nice - well most of them anyway. That man bun is atrocious. But the molded hair make them a no-no to me. Their immovable non-articulated bodies also. The slim ones look a bit weird, with the head looking too large for their body, making them seem like small children. And remember, promo photos of Mattel usually show the doll much better than what we get in real life. Sigh. I guess kids will get them, which is of course the point, it is a play-line collection after all.  Below is a nice video showing the new dolls.

People were expecting this for quite a while and here it is. The final gift set release of the JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Collection: Sophisticated Lady. Dressed here in a fan favorite, JERRICA BENTON goes from business woman by day to the glamorous JEM with just a touch of her magical JEMSTAR earrings. Alain and Vaughn took extra time designing the embroidery on JEM's jacket and it gives her suit a look that is totally inspired by the hit 80's cartoon. So that's it people. The last Jem And The Holograms release. I was not collecting this line, but if I was, I'd be over the moon. The whole series was incredible in detail and crafting and they were the best dolls that could be released for this franchise. The dolls, outfits and accessories were a tour de force and showcased how much the designers, Alain and Vaugh, loved the line and working on it.
