Integrity Toys Luxe Life Convention 2018: Welcome Doll and Convention Collection

This year the most awaited Integrity Toys event takes place in Portland, on the west coast of the USA. Attendees and organisers travelled far to,reach the convention grounds and the party is just getting started. Social media started buzzing with the first photos from early arrivals yesterday and today, first official day of the event, we get the first full post. 

Convention registration started Wednesday for those arriving early and everyone was welcomed by receiving the "THE LOVE OF LUXE" Veronique doll in their welcome bag, along with a monogrammed acrylic chair accessory.

If she had different colours in her make up, she’d look great. The outfit is boring and the accessories not anything to write home about. Not a great debut for a luxe themed event.

I like the lucite chairs, especially those mimicking Philippe Starck’s Louis Ghost, but I’m not sure about the monogram treatment.

We finally get to see the convention Upgrade doll that was available for pre-order when registration started. "A Fabulous Life" Rayna Ahmadi doll made her appearance and every W Club member, attending or not, could pre-order her last spring.

We had the chance to preorder her based on a sketch. The outfit is a copy of an Alexander McQueen Automn/Winter 2018 outfit:

Having figured out the outfit from the initial Integrity sketch, I was excited and waited anxiously to see the final result. And while the doll is perfection (black hair, pale skin, red lips, Rayna sculpt, duh) and the execution looks great (draping and proportions seem exquisite), the main element of the dress is not red as in the original. Instead it is a pale violet/beige that makes the outfit flat and boring.

Really guys? If it was a matter of possible trouble with copying, just make it another bright colour: emerald green, cobalt blue, saffron yellow. I’m very disappointed with this choice. Other than that, I’m glad I got her, she is the best doll revealed in the convention yet (and that includes the rest of the doll’s in this post).

Next up is the 2018 Convention Collection: Dolls from the Fashion Royalty® Collection were designed by Jason Wu himself (Eugenia, Tatyana, Kyori, Vanessa), the NU. Face™ Collection by Jessy Ayala (Giselle), the East 59th® Collection by Chris Stoeckel (Victoire) and the Poppy Parker™ Collection by David Buttry.

I like her face and hair, the outfit not that much. Glad to see convention doll’s with bags for a change. The shoes look like those worn by the Vero given at registration. The ensemble gives off an Yves Saint-Laurent vibe, from the old days. It just need some big gold and enamel cuffs to set it perfectly.

This one also reminds me of older Yves Saint Laurent collections. Ruffles, black and red, ribbons, fishnet stockings, bright make up. Just pile up the bangles and add a gold heart shaped brooch and Yves and Loulou would be proud. This will look great with the red, heart shaped coat from last year.

And here’s your  basic Optic Verve Agnes clone. In a more youthful look, yes, it’s Giselle after all. I like the doll but not the dress. A beret with a mermaid gown? Not very luxe. And the transparent long skirts in gowns died a few years ago on the Met gala steps. But look at that face. Gorgeous.

This is the doll with the most buzz in social media so far in the convention. People are going gaga about her. For me, she’s ok but not better than Rayna or Kyori (my other favourite). Or the other Poppy that was unveiled today (more below). I think the hair colour is wrong for this outfit. But it’s just me. Love the necklace.

The new Victoire sculpt makes its second appearance this year. And looks even better in this emerald concoction that reminds me of fashions worn by Gene Marshall. Beautiful doll and lovely gown. Her widow’s peak and skunk striped hair fit her perfectly. She has the new type gloves that look amazing with this kind of fashion. The necklace could be a green version of the one worn by Take The Picture Funny Face doll.

And finally  the IT Direct Souvenir Shop Exclusives. It has almost become a given for the last few conventions that a few more surprise dolls are unveiled in the salesroom alongside the main collection and this year there are three of them.

2017 W Club members finally get to see the result of their vote from last year. The doll Is beautiful and elegant, with the right amount of fashion bling to make her a standout. The dress is simple but with an intricate detail at the front. Her accessories are perfect, even though I’d prefer the boots with closed toes. The make up has Going Public vibes (the mouth and general design) combined with Tricks Of The Trade or Spring Forward (eyeshadow) - EDIT: She has the Spectacular screening in different colours. She’s not the smash Vanessa Perrin was when she got the dark skin treatment (Second Skin) but she’s fab. I’m getting her with my membership.

I’m not crazy about this year’s upgrade Poppy. The eyes look weird (She has the Reluctant Debutante screening but with applied eyelashes), the hair is blonde (I have too many blonde Poppies), the lipstick too light pink and the dress looks like a variation of the one She’s Arrived had. She has the new high-heeled feet. I love the shoes and the bow details on her bag and bracelet. Easy pass for me.

Rayna wears a one-piece denim overall jumpsuit and completes her look with an oversized jewellery set, a colourful bandana, matching denim open-toed high-heels and a unique ice-cream cone shaped purse. This is an amazing Rayna, one of the best ever released. Her face and make up look great, using pink in the right way. She reminds me of the IFDC Rock Me Baby Rayna but enhanced with warm vibrant pink. Her outfit looks amazing - I’m a sucker for late 70s styled jeans. It would have looked even better in a dark blue denim though. Her shoes are awesome, her bag weird and the jewellery good. She’s coming home too.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 5 - the Poppy Parker luncheon

The second day of the Integrity Toys 2017 convention had more shopping but also workshops for attendees. After that, it was time for the annual Poppy Parker lunch, except this year, the theme of mix and match brands continued with Poppy channeling Little Red Riding Hood as the centerpiece and Eugenia Perrin-Frost as the hidden giveaway doll, this time channeling the Big Bad Wolf. Attendees also got part two of the "Build-a-Giftset" kit: a Nadja head and bust with "sleeping" closed eyes. They were also given the option to purchase a body upgrade kit so that they could have not one, but two complete Nadja dolls at the end of the convention. I am guessing that people that bought a Poppy luncheon ticket were expecting to get only Poppy dolls and not a Fashion Royalty gift and have to win the raffle to purchase a centerpiece Poppy. The Russian folklore touch, first glimpsed on the Alice Style Lab outfit is making another appearance here, much more fittingly in my opinion. I would have liked to see something more creative done with her hair - say making two braids that would coil on the sides of her head, or two pigtails. I also would have liked to see a more pronounced hood - after all, that’s how she got her name, right? I love her bag and will stress again that only Poppies got bags.

Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: Fashion Royalty La Femme collection

The W Club also got the chance to preview the new Fashion Royalty collection last Saturday. Titled "La Femme", the ultra-feminine collection is designed this season by featured designer Jessy Ayala, and was created to celebrate all that makes women of all origins beautiful (as per the company's announcement). Vaughn helped with the production side of the collection. With the success and fresh ideas that Jesse has brought to the Nu Face collection, it was only a matter of time before they let him dabble in the other lines, and here is the first example. So did he succeed? Before we find out, let me point out again that the dolls are $10 more expensive than last year, without any apparent change in what is being on offer, other than the newly revised FR body, which now has no waist joint and softer looking knees. Plus we get the first doll with the interchangeable flat feet set. Gorgeous doll, again with a screening channeling Going Public Eugenia. Jesse said he picked screenings for each doll from the most popular ones from the past. Good choice. She also channels Spectacular Spectacular Eugenia (the FAO special Eugenia back in the beginning). I also love what she is wearing, which is very fashionable right now and reminds me a bit of my favourite designer these days, Jacquemus. The edition size is quite large, so they expect her to be very popular. I am sure she will be. She will be coming home to me as well.

Jordan Duval is a 12.5" fully articulated doll with fully rooted hair. Jordan is wearing a version of the classic hostess outfit with a floor length, detachable turquoise satin skirt over striped satin capri pants, topped by a faux-leather bustier. Jordan completes the look with colorful accessories. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

Jordan is one of the characters that people have been asking to return and it showed in the voting for this year's upgrade FR doll. So here she is, with blond hair and a very colourful outfit. For me this is the weakest doll in this collection, a not so successful mix and match of elements and colours that maybe needed more tweaking, if not a complete redesign. That bag though is to die for.

Another failed mix and match doll, this one in a bit more palatable style than Jordan. Red hair always go well for Vanessa, especially with lighter skin tones. She has a screening based on Star Power Vanessa. If she had a jacket instead of the fur wrap, maybe it would have looked much better.  I love the shirt with the intricate ties on the sleeves.

People had been wondering if we would ever see Elyse in a dark skin tone and here she is. To tell you the truth, she looks a bit weird to me, although I do like the doll a lot. As if she got a fake tan from a bottle or spend too many hours in a tanning salon. She is going to be available via lottery through the club. Combine that with the first appearance of flat feet, the lower price point - this being a close up doll - and you have got the making of a really popular doll. I sure will try to win that lottery!

Easily the best doll of the collection, she was the most popular in the webinar poll too (with Eugenia a close second). The doll is stunning, with short hair sporting a marcel wave and a screening reminding me of the Muse. the outfit is perfection incarnate with its Provençal inspiration (again, Jacquemus): colour, tailoring, style, shape, all combine harmonically to give one of the best dolls Integrity has ever released. I am glad I got confirmed for this one, as her edition size is very small.
