The final two Magia 2000 dolls for their collaboration with Integrity Toys are revealed!

I do not thing anyone was expecting that the remaining two dolls from the Magia 2000/ Integrity Toys collaboration would appear together, but here they are. W Club members received the corresponding email which revealed the two dolls, with characters from NU Face. The fact that the designers picked these particular sculpts sparked a flurry of comments and conversations in forums, groups and social media. One of the two specifically, Colette, drew a lot of ire, not only for being the 2.0 version (which had so far been used only in the first release of the new Colette sculpt), but also for its appearance. More on that later on. Here is what the designers, Gianni and Mario, said about the dolls:

For the final two dolls of our capsule collection, we wanted to continue with the concept of “day-to-night” fun!

We know how much IT collectors love to play with their dolls, undress them and switch accessories and clothing pieces, therefore, we opted to embrace this facet of collecting as much as possible. We were given the chance to design for two NU. Face characters and we couldn’t be more excited at the opportunity to challenge ourselves by creating extravagant looks for this highly prized, modern, and younger doll collection.

We also jumped at the chance to have Colette and Karolin appear in never-used-before skin tones/hair color combos and incorporate details inspired by the last two cities of the Italian tour, Milan and Rome!"

-Mario & Gianni, Magia 2000

Let’s check out both dolls, whose majority were available through a lottery for the W Club (which I am happy to say have been picked to buy in the lottery), and a small percentage of their edition will be available to the public when they arrive at the IT warehouse sometime in late spring/early summer of 2023.

I was not a fan of the original version of the Colette new sculpt when it came out during the Supermodel convention (check link in the introduction). The revamped 2.5 version is the best Colette sculpt and I have one. So this doll had me in a conundrum: I really wanted to have all the dolls from this collaboration in my collection, but not liking a sculpt poses a serious problem. The golden make up tones she is sporting did not help the situation either. The make up also drew a lot of hate from people online, many being people of colour protesting that it is always the dark skinned dolls that get the garish, bold or metallic make up, while the lighter skinned ones get the softer tones to look more natural and lovely. Exhibit A is of course Dominique from the 2021 convention (which is a doll I love, in major part because of her make up). My humble opinion is that the truth is somewhere in the middle: yes, it is not fair that darker skinned dolls get this treatment, but on the other hand, bold and metallic colours do look better on them (and pigments have to be stronger to show properly on darker skin). A counter argument of course could be that her golden make up could have been applied more delicately, like the one on 24K Erin Salston from the Fairytale convention. It would have probably looked more appealing - at least to my eyes. The way it is designed in the prototype reminds me of the ancient Egyptian funerary masks found on mummies, which you could either say could be an inspiration or a bad look. Further more, combined with platinum white hair, instead of say a black afro or a more natural hair look, compounds the problem. I love the outfits (two!) she comes in, and the many possibilities in combining the various bits and pieces (despite the clash of gold and silver/white of some of them), but the doll is somewhat problematic - even more so considering it was designed by white cis gay male people. The doll was shown in an accompanying video with the designers being interviewed by Carol Roth and looked quite better in real life. Which of course does not negate the inherent problem it seemingly has.

The Story:

Fourth and final in a series of dolls created especially for Integrity Toys, each figure and doll in this series will take fans on an ultra-creative tour of some of Italy's most iconic venues and festivals, as seen through the eyes of fabulous design duo Magia 2000!

With a long history that spans more than 28 centuries, Magia 2000's tour of Italy concludes with a thrilling final stop at the center of it all, the "Eternal City"; Rome! Also called "Caput Mundi" (Capital of the World), Rome is generally considered to be the cradle of Western civilization. Famous artists, painters, sculptors, and architects made Rome the center of their activity, creating masterpieces throughout the city. In 2019, Rome was the 14th most visited city in the world, with 8.6 million tourists, the third most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist destination in Italy.

For this final stop, NU. Face top model Karolin Stone makes a most memorable appearance in Rome just in time for the Rome Film Festival, a yearly affair that is attended by hottest actors and directors in the film industry! Wearing a look inspired by some of the architectural details of one of the city's most famous landmarks, the Trevi fountain, Karolin's look can transform from an extravagant cocktail look to a show stopping Grand Gala "entrance" moment! With such over-the-top, glamorous looks at her command, Karolin is sure to leave an undeniable mark in the history of Italian fashion!

Grand_Gala_In_Rome_Karolin_Stone_doll

If it wasn’t for her grand baroque madonna style, with a bit of Moschino by Jeremy Scott Fall 2020 RTW inspiration, Karolin would have been left in the shadow of Colette. I love what the guys did with her, managing to make me actually want to by a Karolin doll (I really do not like her sculpt). Maybe Mario and Gianni should have made Karolin a dark skinned lady in her crinoline gown (Bridgerton anyone?) instead, she would have looked awesome with the pinks. She is a direct connection to their usual work, with all the pomp and decoration she has (including the madonna veil), while still remaining a production doll instead of an OOAK offering. I love both versions of the outfit (long and short) and the accessories are gorgeous - the Valentino boots and pumps alone are amazing (but would have been perfect if she had something more impressive on her head, like the ship True Royalty Vanessa had). Pure winner.

Integrity Toys Mini Capsule Collections 2020 reveal pt..2: Nu Face Essentials Wave 2

The second collection that was revealed in the Integrity Toys online event on Saturday was the Nu Face Essentials Wave2. That basically meant two NU. Face IT Direct dolls, which are exclusively offered right away via IT Direct Right-to-buy lotteries for the W Club members - I sincerely doubt that there will be any left for the general public. The deadline for the lottery is the 5th of October 2020, noon ET. Two dolls were added to the essential line up, with Jessy Ayala picking from the not-that-popular drawer. This time it is Karolin and Colette that shine in the spotlight. The price is hiked - from US$99 last time to US$115.00 now, without anything added to the mix. When your basic edition dolls (because, even though Carol Roth dismissed the term basic for this type of dolls, it is exactly that, even when you name them close up), surpass the US$ 100.00 mark, you are doing something wrong. Colette has a slightly larger edition size, will she be more popular?

This is easily the best looking Karolin Stone version released so far.. I still think the sculpt would have lent itself better to a black character but they keep releasing her as a blonde every single time. She does channel Daphne Groeneveld, one of Jessy’s favourite models. Even I liked this version of Karolin. Not enough to want one though.

What a gorgeous Colette. Just like Karoline, this is the best version of the new Colette sculpt released so far. I like her so much that I’m entering the lottery for her! I never got one of the Colette 1.0 dolls as, contrary to Nadja 1.0 which was the same sculpt, they looked too cartoony to me. This one is stunning. People compared her to one of the Kard*s*ian sisters (Kourtney) but to me she looks nothing like any of them. It’s probably the nude toned underwear and colouring, plus the shoe style, favoured by them.

Integrity Toys Dolly Days finale pt.1: NuFace 2019 Collection reveal

While the fifth Dolly Day went by without any offer from Integrity Toys - just a teaser email about Saturday’s reveal, the sixth and last day of the online event made up for it in spades. While the two collections offered by the company and designed by Jessy Ayala are small in number (three dolls per each), they were enthusiastically received by collectors and are probably going to be quite popular. In this post, we will check out the NuFace ladies and their days off concept: the dolls are dressed in clothes that they would wear in their everyday life, each in her own unique style. They are great looking dolls, but for their $150.00 price, I wanted more elaborate outfits and styles. All three are available from Integrity Toys dealers.

Ayumi is beautiful, looking fresh but very basic, with her plain hair and outfit. She looks like she was part of the lottery NuFace Essentials capsule collection revealed last May. Jessy revised the new Colette sculpt by shrinking the (admittedly oversized) head a bit, and it shows. She looks much better than her debut incarnation back in the Supermodel Convention. If she had a different hair colour, I might have considered buying her, as I do not own any Colette yet. Her green eyes are mesmerising.

IMG_2126.jpeg
IMG_2127.jpeg

Her coat dress is a shorter version of a Balmain Fall 2019 RTW coat. On the runway, it was worn with opaque tights, which fit the off duty concept much better, and over something resembling a blouse/shirt/short dress leather thing, which would have made this doll so much better (along with the original length of the outfit) and worth the $150.00 price tag. Just imagine it made with that soft fake leather stretchy material used for doll gloves. The exact outfit shown on the runway is nowhere to be found either on the brand’s website or major online retailers, so it might have been runway only.

This lady looks like she jumped out of the Top Gun cast. Pity they did not give her aviator sunglasses to match the jumpsuit. She matches the convention Fresh Perspective Agnes in her colouring. I was tempted but her hairstyle is so wrong for this outfit and NuFace in general. Which is a complaint for this collection in general: apart from Colette’s colours, the rest feels a bit tame for such a line. Maybe they should have carried on with the basic/underwear theme and given us lower priced dolls.

Integrity Toys 2018 reveal pt.2: Nu Face - The Counter - Culture Collection

Next up in the webinar was the eagerly anticipated Nu Face line. Jessy Ayala designed this again and was invited by Carol Roth to present the concept. It seems that the Nu Face agency ladies take part in an edgy video clip, designed to cause controversy. The appearance of Lukas Maverick, along with a line up of characters not used for quite a while, plus an old sculpt as a new character is one part of the equation. The other is edgy, outré fashions and styling, neon colour details and S&M details that made lots of collectors happy but also left many in the cold. Let’s check what all the fuss is about. Have in mind that the price of each doll in this line is now $150.00 and they are all available from Integrity Toys dealers except one, that you will see at the end of the post.

Lukas makes a surprise appearance here, as most people were expecting him to be included in the new Hommes line to be presented this fall in Convention. He still has the old Homme body, just like the Industry guys. His styling is quite daring for IT standards, reminding many a Tom Of Finland guy (Jessy admitted it was one of the influences). I wonder what exactly makes an otherwise very interesting doll cost $150.00 wearing a pretty basic outfit without any accessories to make it so expensive. Is it the tattoo? I seriously doubt it. Is it the painted hairstyle and facial hair? Is it the septum ring? IT knows Lukas will sell out no matter what (as he did, soon after the presentation). I did preorder him, he’s gorgeous, even though the outfit looks half done. And I mean the bottom half. Yes, those shorts are an eyesore (pun intended). Pet peeve: sandals with socks and garters. German tourists rejoice. A Perfecto style boot with metallic tip would have been so much better.

Yes, Integrity Toys heard people calling for the Vanessa 2.0 sculpt comeback as a different character and here she is. Violaine is the younger Perrin sister and she rocks! Great styling and make up, with lots of piercings, even a nose ring that is removable. I love the stacked bangles, they remind me of someone completely different: Millicent Rogers, the early 20th century socialite, wore lots of stacked bangles, just as Loulou De La Falaise did much later. Violaine is a variant of Violette (remember that the Perrins are French and all daughters have names that begin with a V) and also a 1996 single by Cocteau Twins, whom I adore. Some people did not like the dark blue lipstick but I think it fits her perfectly. That and her eyeliner are reminiscent of Aerodynamic Vanessa Perrin from 2009. The jeans are definitely like the ones by Balenciaga in their Spring 2018 collection. They are convertible, meaning that each piece is detachable - they have hooks to attach to each other. I am thinking that maybe I can recreate the Versace denim JLo boots that looked like drooping pants. I love the asymmetrical top and the paillete parka. The bag is a miniature wonder and yellow, just perfect. So,is the chocker. And the peacock ring is amazing. Her boots look plain by comparison. Glad to say that she’s coming home.

After a prolonged absence, Annik returns again, with a last name (Vandale), wild styling and a prominent place in the Nu Face collection. She has the same police/bondage hat as Lukas, a beautiful small bag with lots of details, a face ring that cannot be removed (it will leave a dent and void the warranty) and a pair of semi transparent boots made of organza that, according to what Jessy said, has a holographic effect.

Dominique is back but in Nu Face instead of her usual Fashion Royalty position. She gives off a JLo vibe and her multimix fashion is quite interesting. The violet lipstick looks quite good on her but could be problematic for redressing. Her eyeglasses look a bit weird on her. I think a pair styled like those worn by the band Devo would have looked much better.

This is the lottery doll, so do not ask dealers for this one. Colette 1.0 returns - last we saw her she was part of the W Club wedding trio. She’s dark again, which is cool, and her fashion is the most Indian inspired from the whole collection. Her fashion is Gucci styled again, with lots of colours and textures mixing, much in the style Alessandro Michele has being using in the Gucci collections these past few years. Her boots remind me of the ones worn by this year’s upgrade Eugenia. Love the bag.
